Sticking Doors & Windows: Could It Be the Foundation?
A door or window that suddenly changes can be a useful clue, especially if other parts of the house are changing at the same time.
Why openings react to movement
Frames depend on surrounding walls staying square. When framing or foundation support shifts, openings can become slightly distorted and doors or windows may rub, bind, or show uneven gaps.
Rule out simple causes
Humidity, hardware, paint buildup, swelling materials, and installation issues can also cause sticking. The foundation becomes more plausible when several structural symptoms appear together.
What to document
Note which openings changed, when it started, whether nearby cracks are present, and whether floors in the same area feel different.
