Foundation Maintenance & Prevention
Not every foundation problem can be prevented, but homeowners can reduce avoidable water and drainage conditions that may contribute to movement around a structure.
Pay attention to drainage
Keep roof runoff and concentrated surface water from repeatedly discharging next to the foundation where practical. Correct obvious ponding or erosion rather than allowing it to continue.
Watch for changes after storms
Heavy rain and storm events can alter drainage and wash out support in vulnerable areas. Re-check the property after major weather events for new erosion, cracking, or settlement signs.
Track small changes before they become mysteries
Dated photos and simple notes can help establish whether a crack or floor condition is stable or changing over time.
